A Nightmare on Elm Street(2010)

A Nightmare on Elm Street(2010)

Hi Readers,

Today I will be presenting a remake of highly famous horror movie, A Nightmare On Elm Street(1981) by Wes Craven. I like all of Wes Craven's movies and his two of his franchises, Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream have gathered wide spread acclaim from all horror movie fans. All of his movies present a unique self-defining murderous villain. This movie's villain is probably the deadliest and scariest of them all. I mean just imagine an almost burned face and hands with four knives coming out of each. Enough to scare anyone to death.

The movie starts with a boy killing himself in a diner by sliting his own throat. Slowly, all the teenagers of Elm Street are dying in mysterious and violent ways. The teens claim that a man in their nightmares called Freddy Krueger kills them. Two teens then start an investigation of their past and all the Elm Street teens' connection with the killer, Freddy.

Altogether, the movie proposes an interesting and creepy concept. It feels scary to go to sleep after watching the movie. The day I watched the movie, I couldn't sleep at night cause I was afraid my nightmare would come true. Sounds cheesy but it is actually pretty scary once you watch the movie. I would prefer the original movie over the remake. It is more scarier. The newer one is a bit unrealistic and harder to believe. Anyways, I recommend this movie to people who loved the original Nightmare and to all the horror movie fans.

See you at my next discussion.

Movies releasing today

Movies releasing today

Hi readers.

Today I am not discussing a particular movie, but I will be talking about the movies releasing today in India. I haven't yet watched Lights Out which I think released a week ago. Some of my friends say it is a pretty good watch for horror fans. Anyways, two highly anticipated movies releasing today are Steven Spielberg's The Big Friendly Giant (The BFG) and the modern Ghostbusters remake.

I remember reading The BFG as a kid. I loved all of Roald Dahl's books including The Witches and all of his short stories. The BFG intrigued me and it felt like I entered the fantasy land of the giants while I read the book. Thus, I can't wait to watch this movie. I watched the Witches movie made many years ago. It was a good watch. The trailer of The BFG was pretty good. I loved the animations and the fantastical land shown. If you are a fan of animated movies or children's movies, bet me on this one, you'll                                                            definitely love The BFG.

The old Ghostbusters was a great movie. Comedy, Action and minimalistic Horror...what more could one ask for? Thus, people do have a reason for going to watch the remake. The batch of funny and misfit looking actors such as Mellisa McCarthy just makes you want to watch the movie more.

Anyways, I'll probably watch both of these movies today itself or tomorrow max. I really don't know which movie I will be discussing next. But see you next time.

Shutter Island (2010)

Shutter Island (2010)

Welcome back readers,

I am really excited for today's movie discussion. Shutter Island is one of my favorite psychological thrillers. Leonardo DiCaprio has given a mind blowing performance in the movie. He really is an actor with real substance. Delivering two major psychological super hits, the other being Inception, in one year is damn noteworthy. I could not help but notice a lot of similarities between Inception and Shutter Island. Leonardo's reel wife is dead in both of em, both movies focus on his guilt and the basis in both movies is 'the mind and psyche'.

The movie opens up with the introduction of the main character Teddy Daniels, a U.S. Marshal, and his subordinate, Chuck. Both of them are in a boat, on their way to Shutter Island, to investigate the disappearance of Rachel Solondo, a patient in a mental institution who drowned her 3 children. Both of them are busy investigating the disappearance and are drawn in deciphering clues. Meanwhile, Teddy is having severe migraines and walking dreams regarding his traumatic World War 2 experience and his wife's death in a fire. He also has mysterious dreams about Rachel Solondo and her dead children. Teddy starts noticing weird happenings within the mental institution which point towards cruel brain experiments. Meanwhile, Rachel is found on the island. The main reason Teddy took the case of Rachel was to find his wife's killer, Andrew Laiedis, the man who started the deadly fire. Teddy digs down deep into finding the mystery behind the mental institution and the eerie lighthouse. He is also keen of solving a riddle found on a note: The rule of 4, Who is 67. 67 meaning the 67th hidden patient of Shutter Island.

This movie offers a movie experience no one would want to miss. The suspense builds up as the movie proceeds. The climax is probably the last 15 minutes of the movie. I was so shocked when I found out about the truth in the movie. Anyways, I recommend this movie to all the people who love thriller, mystery, suspense and psychology movies.

SPOILER ALERT- ABOUT THE ENDING OF THE MOVIE

The ending of the movie was a bit ambiguous, so I would also like to talk about it. When Teddy goes into the lighthouse to confront the evil brain surgeries occurring there and to find his partner Chuck, he sees the doctor sitting there. The doctor tells him to sit down quietly and tells him that he in fact is Andrew Laiedis, the 67th patient of Shutter Island. He had developed an alter personality in which his name was Teddy Daniels, a U.S. Marshal. Two years, ago, Andrew Laiedis, a U.S. Marshal had killed his wife, suffering from depression, because she was the one who drowned their 3 children in the lake. Andrew could not live with the guilt of being a monster, so he developed an alter ego, Teddy Daniels, in which he was the hero, unveiling a nonexistent conspiracy going on in Shutter Island. The rule of 4 was:

The doctor tells Andrew that he was the most dangerous patient, and they let him play out his alter personality act for the last time. Chuck turns out to be his primary psychologist, Dr. Sheehan. The doctor tells him that he has been playing out this game repeatedly for 2 years like a cycle. he next morning, Andrew wakes up and admits that he is not Teddy and that he killed his wife. The doctor warns Andrew not to regress into his previous mental state, otherwise he will have to be lobotomized. At the ending of the movie, Andrew talks to Dr. Sheehan, deliberately calling him Chuck, because he knows the doctors are observing. The last dialogue of Andrew is: Which one is worse, to live as a monster, or to die a good man? This means, that Andrew could not live with the guilt of being responsible for his family's death, so he decides to be lobotomized as Teddy Daniels, his perceived 'good man'. The last scene shows the orderlies taking Andrew to the lighthouse.

The Omen (2006)

The Omen (2006)

Welcome back to my blog with another horror movie! Personally this movie is one of my favorite horror movies. It is a remake of the original 1976 Omen. I haven't watched that movie yet, but it is basically the same as the remake. I loved practically everything about this movie, and I regret the fact that there are only a few horror movies made which truly scare my guts.! The suspense is built exponentially within the movie. The movie is practically based on an evil boy who turns out to be the devil himself, reborn to turn man against himself and destroy the race of mankind.

The movie starts out with a prominent ambassador adopting a baby whose parents are unknown. The ambassador's wife suffers from a miscarriage and thus the ambassador tells his wife, Kate that the adopted baby is their own, because the baby meant the world to his wife and he couldn't lose her too. 5 years go by...Kate still has no idea the baby is adopted and the ambassador takes care of the child as if his own. They name the child Damien. Days pass by and some mysterious occurrences follow. Kate notices some eccentric changes in Damien, and she feels that he is very different. She later starts fantasizing that Damien is evil and not her own son. A priest comes to warn the ambassador that the child is the devil himself and will kill his family to finish his mission. The ambassador does not listen to him and thinks the priest is mentally ill. But the following events convince him that his son is in fact extremely evil. He later goes on a quest to find out how to stop the boy's evil mission.

The child actor playing Damien is really suited. The boy looks scary at times with his dark hair and ice-cold blue eyes staring mercilessly. The depiction of the devil's effect is done uniquely, like the presence of black dogs in the vicinity of the boy and the evil nanny. There are a few scenes which are extremely violent and disturbing and should not be in any case viewed by children below 10 years.

Anyways, I recommend this movie to all horror, thriller and dark genre fans.

See you all at my next recommendation.

Grace: The Possession

Grace: The Possession (2014)

Hey guys,

Welcome back. Today I will be describing a movie I saw yesterday...Grace: The Possession. Unlike my previous recommendations, I have mixed reviews and opinions regarding this movie. Despite being a movie in the horror genre, this movie doesn't offer quite the scares as other movies. There have been many great movies made based on "a possessed girl" like The Exorcist(1978), The Exorcism of Emily Rose, The Possession(2012) and many more and all of them are unique in their own way. The potential of this movie clearly does not match the potential of such classic possession flicks. But the thing I liked about this movie was the eccentricity of the behavior of the possessed girl Grace. This movie attempts to combine different factors, possession, a girl losing her childish innocence in a high school environment and an over possessive and controlling grandmother.

The thing that I liked about the movie is that the whole movie is shot from the angle of Grace. The movie watchers can feel the story as perceived by the possessed girl Grace. This is something unique and has not been done in other horror movies. Anyways, I liked the movie, but it does not really entertain as much as other horror movies. I recommend this movie to horror movie fan having time on their hands and wanting to pass their time. I also recommend this movie to people wanting to experience a different kind of  possession movie.

Thanks for keeping up with my reviews and stay tuned.....

The Devil Inside

The Devil Inside(2012)

Heyy guys,

Thanks for joining me for another movie discussion cum recommendation. Yesterday I watched The Devil Inside. The movie really got me through. It is a movie made in a documentary format(though it is not a documentary). I don't really like movies in documentary or recording formats, but this movie clearly is an exception. It has left a trace of pure dread in my mind.

The beginning of the movie starts with an introduction of a triple murder and the portrayed guilty woman,Maria Rossi. The main character, Isabelle Rossi, is the murderer's daughter. She explains her relationship with her mother and her transformation from a loving mother to a psychotic or possessed woman. Isabelle is convinced that her mother is possessed, and lists it as a reason for the murders. Maria Rossi murdered the three people, clergy members at the time of an exorcism, further convincing Isabelle that her mother is possessed. 10 years after last seeing her mother, Isabelle goes to Rome to attend an exorcism school and to meet her mother currently in a mental hospital there. After the murders, the Church had declined the exorcism of Maria. Isabelle wishes to take matters in her own hands and contacts two priests whom she met at the exorcism school. The priests agree to help Maria and attempt an exorcism on her.....Okay now that is all I'm going to be telling you. You will enjoy the ending and suspense of the movie much more if I don't tell you. The rest of the story will really give you nerve wrecking chills and shocks, so buckle up.

Anyways, I liked the movie and its uniqueness. It is a treat for horror movie lovers. I recommend this movie to people who like the horror, thriller and suspense genres. See ya at my next discussion.

The Last Exorcism

The Last Exorcism(2010)

Hey movie enthusiasts,

I'm back with a new movie discussion. I watched The Last Exorcism yesterday night and felt like discussing how I felt about it. I'm not a fan of footage horror movies (of course excluding the Paranormal franchise), but this movie was an exception. It gave a plenty of scares throughout the middle and especially in the ending. When I first turned on the movie, I was left bored and unenthusiastic because the starting 15 to 20 minutes is pretty boring and pointless. But, as the movie succeeded, more twists, suspense and scares where added (an integral part of horror movies).

The thing that I liked about the movie was that despite being a movie based on the exorcism practice, it largely differs from fellow horror movies depicting exorcisms. I liked the uniqueness of the behavior portrayed by the possessed girl. Chills certainly went down my spine at some point of time during the movie. Moreover, the ending of the movie was really deviates from other horror movies. After a few minutes of contemplation I got the ending of the movie.

In short, I recommend this movie to horror, thriller and suspense fans. I also recommend this movie to people who have gotten bored of watching movies involving exorcisms within them. This movie will certainly give those people a change of opinion regarding the practice of exorcism.

That is it for today, we'll meet at my next discussion.

Dark Shadows(2012)

"Dark", somehow I like all movies starting with this word...curiously weird...ain't it? Anyways, welcome back to a short movie discussion cum recommendation. The movie I'll be discussing today is Dark Shadows(which I think is an adaptation of a book).

Dark Shadows is a vampire movie. Dark Shadows deviates from other vampire love stories. The movie starts with the introduction of the main character when he was a young lad, a.k.a Barnabus Collins who hails from an extremely rich family. He is pursued by the daughter of the house maid, Angelique, who also turns out to be an evil witch. Anyways under extreme circumstances, Barnabus, under the witch's curse is turned into a vampire, set to rot alone for eternity. But, fate does not support it, as he wakes up from his coffin after 200 years and returns back to his mansion. There he meets the new inhabitants, the descendants of the Collins family(a damn weird bunch indeed). He also meets a girl looking like his one true love whom with he could not reunite 200 years ago due to the witch. Angelique also makes a re-entry in the present, continuing to try to make Barnabus's life a living hell.

I got carried away giving you the description. I recommend this movie highly to vampire movie, thiller, comedy and horror movie lovers. Johnny Depp's performance took my breath away. Like all his other movies, he managed to act out an eccentric character flawlessly. Eva Green also gave an awesome performance of a true witch. The Collin's family and the doctor give you many laughs to enjoy the movie. The best characteristic of the movie is the uniqueness of the environment and characters.

See you next time for my next movie recommendation.
Farewell.

Dark Skies(2013)

I watched this movie like 2 days ago and I am still getting nightmares relating alien invasions. It probably looks pretty unusual on my side, but trust me, after watching this movie you may on the same page as me. Before watching this movie, I read the preview summary placed on imdb. It didn't really interest me. I started watching the movie with little interest not knowing that the movie really had enough substance to scare me. The movie starts out with the character's introduction: a regular looking family(which is also going through hard money times). After 20 mins from the starting, weird occurrences at night occur, such as the kitchen getting trashed and the creepy alignment and stacking of food items in thin air.

Dark Skies offers a great and bumpy ride and some unexpected treats that horror movie lovers like myself find uncommon in other movies. I wont be telling you my favorite parts as that will probably ruin the movie experience for you if you haven't watched Dark Skies. The thing I liked the most about the movie was that it deviates from the conventional portrayal of alien invasions in widely acclaimed movies like War of the Worlds, Independence Day, Mars Attacks! and many more. This movie completely freaked me out and left me wondering about the existence of the Grays.

Anyways, sorry about me blabbering on...It's just I liked the movie a lot. I recommend it highly to people who like horror, thriller, mystery and extraterrestrial movies.

BBye, I will be posting my next recommendation soon.
